Sanjay Gandhi Government Polytechnic (SGP), Jagdishpur, Amethi, is a premier public technical education institute under the Department of Technical Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh. The institute is dedicated to providing high-quality, diploma-level technical education to students in the Amethi district and surrounding regions. It is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliated with the Board of Technical Education, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow.
- Hostels: Separate, well-appointed hostel facilities for both boys and girls.
- Laboratories: Over 29 specialized labs and workshops for hands-on training.
- Library: A central resource hub housing over 7,500 books and various digital materials.
- Community Engagement: Active participation in the National Service Scheme (NSS) and NCC.

Our History
The institute was founded in 1981 to provide diploma-level technical education to students in District Amethi and nearby areas. SGP began its academic journey with three foundational engineering disciplines:
- Civil Engineering: Focuses on the planning, design, and maintenance of sustainable infrastructure, including buildings, roads, and bridges.
- Mechanical Engineering (Production): Provides specialized training in modern manufacturing processes, system analysis, and industrial production techniques.
- Electronics Engineering: Covers the study of semiconductors, integrated circuits, and the design of modern electronic devices and systems.
A major early milestone occurred on April 15, 1984, when the polytechnic shifted operations to its own dedicated campus to better accommodate its growing student body and laboratory requirements.
To support the industrial growth of the Jagdishpur Industrial Area, the institute introduced specialized programs tailored to regional industry needs. In 1995, SGP Jagdishpur introduced a specialized department:
- Chemical Technology (Fertilizer): This branch was specifically designed to create a skilled workforce for the local chemical industries, bridging the gap between classroom learning and industrial application.
To keep pace with the 21st-century manufacturing sector, the institute underwent a significant expansion in 2010. Recognizing the niche requirements of the automotive and consumer goods sectors, two specialized technical branches were added:
- Paint Technology: Providing expertise in industrial coatings, surface finishing, and chemical pigments.
- Plastic Mould Technology (PMT): Training students in modern plastic manufacturing, molding processes, and material science.
Aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to promote lifelong learning and skill formalization, Sanjay Gandhi Government Polytechnic, Jagdishpur (SGPJ) is set to launch its Working Professional Course for the 2026–2027 academic session in three branchs:
- Civil Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering (Production)
- Electronics Engineering

- Regional Proximity: The campus is situated 80 km from Lucknow and 60 km from Sultanpur.
- Road Connectivity: The institute is well-connected by a frequent network of UPSRTC and private buses.
- Rail Connectivity: The campus is easily accessible via the Nihalgarh Railway Station (recently renamed to Maharaja Bijli Pasi Railway Station), which is approximately 7.2 km away and sits on the Lucknow-Sultanpur-Varanasi rail route.
- Proximity to Industry: Being located within the Industrial Area, students benefit from close proximity to major industrial establishments like BHEL, Indo-Gulf Fertilizers, and SAIL, facilitating practical industry exposure.
